Are there any flowers in particular that are good to have in potted containers inside during the winter months? I’d like to liven up my house some but I don’t have any idea what type of flowers would be good.

Visit the florist and you'll find bouquets of blooming houseplants for winter color. Kalanchoes, with thick fleshy leaves like bright light, small gardenias will perfume an entire room and blooming orchids will last for months and months if you mist and water them. Potted azaleas are year round favorites for florists to sell but I find these more difficult to keep in bloom - they are very thirsty houseplants and the flowers do best in a cool location. If you like your house warm in the winter, avoid azaleas.
