Best annuals for wooden barrels
Can annuals be planted in wooden barrel planters? If yes, would you recommend some annuals? I have four huge wooden barrel planters; two in direct sun light and two in the shade. I reside in the Enumclaw plateau, rural Auburn area. I really appreciate any advice. Thank you so much for your time.

Wooden barrels make great planters. To really fill the large space for a sunny area look for the \"Storm\" petunias that can handle wet weather and will spread quickly to overflow the planter. In a shaded site wax begonias and impatiens are two annuals that will create mass blooms. Be sure to use potting soil in at least the top 8 inches of the barrel but you can fill the bottom with empty plastic nursery pots or plastic water bottles. You must fertilize potted plants. I add Osmocote at planting time following the instructions on the label. Check the soil daily and water when the top inch is dry to the touch. Make sure the water drains from holes in the bottom of the barrels. It sounds like you a very colorful summer in your future. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
