How to safely eliminate climbing wild weeds and others from my vegetable area?

A thick mulch and cutting or pulling weeds when young is the best control. Use a sharp hoe to slice weeds at root level on a hot day. You can lay newspaper on top of bare soil and cover this with 2 to 3 inches of wood chips or bark chips to smother small weeds. Keep cutting off the weeds at ground level once they sprout again and you will eventually starve out the root system. It may take three cuttings. Planting thickly so that there is little bare ground also helps to control weeds. Keep growing - but not weeds, Marianne Binetti
