Marianne's Response

Kill the weeds, keep the vegetables

What can I use to kill weeds in my garden and not harm any vegetable plants?

A spade, a screw driver and a trowel are the best tools for hand weeding and then layer a mulch of wood chips on top of the soil to keep the weeds from coming back. If you want to keep weeds out of pathways you can smother them with old carpet strips or use cardboard with wood chips on top in areas where you want to walk and keep down the weeds. The good news is if you hoe the young weeds now and again in a few weeks you should be ahead of the weed wars later this summer as you will be preventing these spring weeds from blooming and going to seed.
