Yes! I personally transplanted a large hydrangea from my brother's yard and he lives in a different state - and it was a hot summer day. Hydrangeas are very tough but they do need water after transplanting. The plant will droop and wilt if you move it in August but when the cooler weather arrives it will grow new roots and be fine by next summer. To make the transplant more successful be sure to soak the soil the night before you do the dirty deed. Then dig a trench about three feet out from the center of the shrub and try to uproot the hydrangea with moist soil clinging to the roots. Reset in a new hole at the same depth as before and mulch to keep the roots cool. Remember to keep the soil moist. You'll be enjoying your hydrangea next summer and for years to come. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
