laurie’s Question
I purchased Sunshine (blueberry) and Raspberry shortcake plant. What size containers should I put them in as I will want to leave them. Also, what soil preparation would work best. Live in University Place with western exposure on high bank waterfront. Thanks. I read your column faithfully. Laurie

Great choice of compact plants for a container. Both the Sunshine blue berry and the Raspberry Shortcake will thrive for years in a 10 gallon container - or a pot up to the size of a half whiskey barrel. Just be sure they get plenty of water with that hot Western exposure and that the pots drain well. Use potting soil amended with two shovels of compost - the soil must drain freely but both berry plants will appreciate some compost mixed into the potting soil. I see blueberry pies and raspberry shortcakes in your future. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
