Marianne's Response
Can I grow raspberry plants in a barrel?
I have raspberries planted in whiskey barrels to contain the spread, but they have been there for 2-3 years and I’m wondering how crowded they are now. The berries on the earliest planted barrels were very small this year. Should I start over, or will fertilizer do the trick?

I would give the berries one more year in those large pots but be sure to fertilize with a slow release but complete plant food like Osmocote in the spring. You should also add a compost mulch or manure mulch to the berries at the first sign of new growth. If you don't have near to normal harvest this summer then throw in the trowel, get rid of those plants, start with fresh soil and plant your whiskey barrels with fresh plants next spring.
Keep growing,
