Caring for lily bulbs

How do I care for lily bulbs that have been in the ground all winter and are just now coming up? Do I need to fertilize them?

Well here is an easy answer - you don't need to do anything for your summer flowering bulbs now pushing up from the earth. If you have slugs and snails you may want to protect the tender new growth but early spring is not the time to fertilize these summer bloomers. In mid April after the weather warms you can sprinkle a bit of Osmocote slow release plant food around the lilies and work it in every so gently. I see lots of lovely lilies in your future this summer. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
