Lilacs
Is it an okay time of year to transplant 2 lilac bushes? Thanks.

Yes! Winter or early spring is the best time to transplant bare and leafless shrubs like lilacs. You can cut back any tall lilac stems to make the shrubs easier to handle but then be patient as you will most likely be cutting off this year's flower buds. To renew an old lilac shrub you should also cut out the thickest or oldest canes to encourage new young shoots. Lilacs do best in a spot with full sun and lots of wind or air circulation. The soil also needs to be well drained but not particularly fertile as they adjust to many types of soils. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
