Lily Overwatering
Hello! I planted a stargazer lily outside in a flower bed a couple weeks ago and it was thriving for the first week. It slowly became droopy and the bottom leaves are turning yellow. I think I over watered it. How do I tell if it has root rot? The bottom stem does seem to be a little brown.

Do you have clay soil? Root rot is most often the result of planting in clay soil and too much water but a slow droop could also be root damage from moles or other rodents. Poke your finger into the soil and do not water until the top two inches feels dry to the touch. Your lilies might just make it. If you are concerned about your soil dig up the bulb and plants now and repot into potting soil in a large container. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti.
