Poison Ivy can be sprayed with Round Up and if you wait the time recommended on the package you can still add new plants to the treated area. You can also cut the weeds to the ground, cover the area with cardboard and then top it all off with 2 to 3 inches of woodchips. Next year the ground should be ready for planting. Another method is to hand pull the poison ivy by putting your hands into plastic garbage bags that you use the bags use to contain the ivy. Remember that some people are so sensitive to the oils of poison oak and ivy that even the smoke from burning this plant can cause them to suffer. The oil can also stick to your clothing and shoes so be sure to remove both before going indoors and launder immediately. Good luck, Keep growing - but not poison ivy, Marianne Binetti
