My best guess is that the leaves may be dark due to a bit of cold weather, but if the leaves are dark and also soft they could be suffering from an early blight disease. If you could send a photo of the foliage this would help me a lot in solving this mystery. Also let me know: Are the plants in full sun? Did you fertilize, and how much you are watering?
