Elmer’s glue on cut canes
I was just reading a blog of Marci’s from last spring where she mentions using Elmer’s glue on the canes she has just pruned. This is totally new to me! How does it work? Do the canes grow up despite the glue, or is the glue to prevent those canes from growing again? In other words, do I put glue on canes I’m cutting away, or on canes I’m trimming to shape?

I have heard that glue on cut canes will stop insects from boring into the canes, but it does not promote or stop growth. The new growth will come from a bud just below the cut cane. Unless you have a problem with cane borers in your roses, you do not have to worry about covering the cut canes with glue.
Keep growing,
