Marianne's Response

marlene802’s Question

Marianne,
Can you tell me when is the best time to dig up and transplant raspberry bushes? The weeds especially that terrible Chervil has over-taken them. We have sawdust to put down thickly once they are replanted to help keep weeds at bay. We live in Central Vermont. Also, is there a safe spray, powder or homemade remedy to keep Japanese Beetles away from them and other plants they seem to thrive on? Thanks in advance for your help.

You can transplant raspberry canes in early spring as soon as you see signs of new growth. Japanese beetle can be controlled with a pyrethrum spray but you can also use pheromone traps set out during the weeks recommended by your local extension agent. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
