Can I plant cloves from garlic bulbs purchased in a grocery store?

Yes, people have had success planting garlic cloves from the grocery store, but it is not recommended as they could have been treated with a growth retardant to keep them from sprouting in the store. Best to order garlic cloves for planting from a garden center or nursery.
