Starting a vegetable garden in the pacific Northwest

Hi Marianne,
I live in Auburn, Wa and was wondering how I would grow a banana plant. When should I start my seeds for tomatoes, squash and other vegs?

Welcome to zonal denial - you can grow a hardy banana called Musu basjoo with just a bit of winter protection and leave it out doors all year long. I have seen this hardy banana for sale at several local nurseries in your area. For starting warm season seeds of tomatoes, squash, egg plant and cucumbers plant the seeds 6 to 8 weeks before all danger of frost or about mid April. There are also cool season crops such as peas, lettuce, radish and kale that can be seeded directly into the ground as soon as the soil dries out a bit - usually the end of March. The best advice on when to plant specific crops is written on the seed pack. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
