Winter plants for a backyard garden pond
I am adding a pond to my back yard/garden area. Are there any water plants that would survive the winter in the Pacific Northwest?
Also, what plants would you recommend planting around the pond? I have a backyard wildlife habitat and would like to make the pond more natural looking.

Congratulations on diving into the world of water gardening. The birds will enjoy your pond as much as you will. There are plenty of plants that will survive all winter in standing watering including native duckweed, pondweed and marshpenny. Around the pond the wildlife will thrive in native wetland plants such as skunk cabbage, iris, service berry and angelica. A good book with many photographs of the best plants is called \"Wetland Plants of Oregon and Washington\" by Jennifer Guard. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
