It has been an unusually warm spring and summer. Leaf crops often go to seed quickly in warm weather. Try planting earlier in April so they can grow while the weather is cool. It will help to add extra organic matter such as compost to your garden soil so it can hold more moisture and stay cooler. To keep cabbage worm off your crops cover cabbage, kohlrabi, brussel sprouts and other members of the cole family with an agricultural fleece blanket to keep the butterflies from laying eggs that hatch into green cabbage worms.
