Should honeysuckle be trimmed back?

Yes, it can be - any vine that is growing out of control crazy can be trimmed to tidy and renew the growth but if your honeysuckle is healthy and has room to roam it is not necessary to chop it back. Cut back your honeysuckle while it is still dormant in early spring. You can cut it back severely so that it has just two to three feet of stem left or you can thin out the oldest stems and shorten the longest vines. Your honeysuckle can also take a light pruning right after it blooms. If you remove less than one third of the vine it will adapt to this summer haircut. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
