When to prune roses

We bought a house in March that has a terrific garden that had not been pruned and “put to bed for the winter” last fall. There are many roses in the flower beds, and they are all blooming on last year’s canes. Now that their blooms are slowing down, would it be safe for me to prune them back by about a third? I have roses blooming up under the eaves of my house!

Marianne's Response

Yes! Prune those roses now, and sorry it took me so long to answer. I have been traveling. Do not prune after mid-August. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
