mflewis’s Question

Thanks for answering my recent question. Here’s another: I want to dig up and divide my rhubarb, a task I usually do after the October frost knocks back the leaves. Though we haven’t yet had a frost, the leaves have died back. Is it ok to do this now? More thanks!

Marianne's Response

If you live in the Northwest in an area where winters are mild then you can dig and divide rhubarb in late fall. If in doubt wait until early spring to dig and divide your rhubarb roots. Then reward them with steer manure layered on top of the soil. Rhubarb responds well with a manure mulch. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
