Mini Rose
I have a miniature rose that is doing amazing since I transplanted it at the beginning of the summer, but it’s getting long and just bloomed. I was wondering if I should be ‘deadheading’ the spent blossoms and if there was also a way to support the branching stems. Can you tell if this is trying to climb / if I should try and get a small support for it? Any other tips would help!

Congrats on successfully transplanting your mini rose and don't be afraid to prune back any branch that has finished blooming. Roses respond with new growth when pruned. Stop pruning near the end of August to help the rose go into winter dormancy. Just snip the branch that bloomed down to a joint or node. You can also train many roses to grow up a trellis or support as a climbing rose. The branches will need to be tied to the support and I have found using strips of nylon panty hose cut into narrow sections make weather proof but soft ties for the soft rose stems. One more tip - roses are heavy feeders so be sure to fertilize with Osmocote in spring and summer. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
