Moss like ground cover in flower gardens

I have this mossy like plant covering my entire dirt in the flower gardens. I have been told I must dig up at least 4” deep of the moss and dirt and replace all of the dirt. I am obviously answer shopping with you. Is there an easier way, like putting baking soda on it so it dies, rather than digging it all up? I have uploaded a photo.

No worries. It looks like either baby tears or a native moss and neither of these low growers will harm your plants. If you do not like the look just layer a mulch such as compost or bark chip or wood shavings on top of the mossy growth around the shrubs. Make the mulch at least 3 inches deep. All plants need sunlight and if you cover the growth with a mulch it will weaken these plants and if it does die the plant material will decay into your soil. This is a much better idea than digging it all up. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
