Marianne's Response

Moss overgrowth

Corsican mint was planted in my small backyard 2 years ago. Last fall it looked like it was covering well. Now all the ground cover is covered by heavy moss growth. Can I put a moss out product on it? Please advise. Thank you.

NO! I can tell you from experience that a moss killer will also kill Corsican Mint. I suggest you dig up the section and hand remove the moss then replace the mint. You may grow less moss using this tip: Dig up the soil plants and all and lay down a layer of crushed rock. Plant bits of the mint in the rock and keep moist. The better drainage will discourage the moss. Corsican mint grows very well under greenhouse benches that have a gravel floor and lots of humidity and moisture. It is a more fragile groundcover outdoors so you will always need to hand weed this area if you want Corsican mint as a groundcover.  Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
