Marianne's Response
I have good news and bad news. The climbing hydrangea can be moved in spring or fall and so dig in and move it now or anytime before the foliage leafs out. Hydrangeas are generally easy to transplant. Peonies on the other hand hate to be moved as they have long roots that break easily. The best time to move a peony is in the fall after the foliage has turned brown or yellow. You could try digging a very deep ditch around the peony and then scooping the shovel under the plant to get all the roots - you should go down at least one foot. Be sure not to replant the peony too deep as that is the number one reason a peony stops flowering (too much mulch on top) or never blooms (planted too deep.) Just grow for it, Marianne Binetti
