Marianne's Response

My rose

I Have a Chrysler Imperial rose that I just love. Last spring it started to grow from the main bush, but then we had snow. And the new little leaves died. It seems as if the bush was dead, but later in the spring it grew a new stem, but as a suckered, not from the main bush. It grew tall, but only leaves, never any blossoms. I waited for this year. I did cut it back in the fall. It has grown tall again this spring, but again no blooms. What can I do to make it bloom. I have fed it regularly last year and this year. Lisa Elsas

Marianne's Response

So sorry but I think I have bad news for you. That sucker has succeeded in a hostile take over and I do not think your Chrysler Imperial rose is coming back. I suggest you dig out the offending "sucker" rose roots and all and start fresh with a new rose plant. Consider a cold hardy variety on it's own root stalk so it will not sucker. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
