Marianne's Response

My Yard is Pesticide Free

I haven’t sprayed my yard or home with pesticides for the last 10 or 11 years. I used to have roaches – you would see them on the patio after dark and a few would venture into the house, especially after a heavy rain. And they would nest in the bottoms of my potted plants. I raised the pots up off the ground and stopped spraying. The number of roaches has diminished to the point where I rarely see one. No more roaches in my pots either. Could this be a result of the beneficial insects controlling the roach population? P.S. I also have geckos in my garden.

Yes! The geckos and happy birds are great for keeping down insects in the garden so congrats on letting nature do the work for you. Keeping your pots raised up a bit is another way to discourage pests. I use bottle caps to elevate my pots just enough to keep them bottoms dry. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
