Should I start rose bushes from seeds or cuttings?

When should I start rose bush seeds indoors for spring planting? Also, is it ok to place prepared seeds into those “pods” and place in my small indoor greenhouse dome? I have two different types of seeds, rainbow and blues blue. I’m aware that I have to do some work in order to get the rainbow bush to be rainbow. I’ve never started from seed for anything but would like to make it a hobby but I’m stuck for when to start with my indoor equipment. I just purchased a lighted stand today in order to get ready and make more room for my plants/bushes that might/will grow.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!!

Congratulations on your new greenhouse and adventure in seed planting. Roses are usually grown from cuttings, not seeds, as they are often grafted and hybrids. The seeds will not always resemble the parent plant. The pods you refer to are great for starting most any seed. The answer for when to plant depends on when you have your last frost in the Spring. Usually seeds are planted 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost, or mid March or April in most parts of the country. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
