Nikko Blue Hydrangea Not Blooming

We had three Nikko Blue hydrangeas planted in our landscaping in 1997. After years of trying various pruning and fertilizing techniques (or not pruning or fertilizing) with no flowers, we removed two of the plants. Since then we’ve continued to try with the remaining plant, with no results. The plant is vigorous, just no flowers i’ve attached a photo of the remaining plant. It is in a location that gets full morning sun. Do you have any suggestions, or should I just give up? Thanks for your advice.

Have you tried not pruning at all? Many hydrangeas flower on two year old wood so never pruning gives most blooms. In your case it may be your weather. In an exposed site the flower buds may freeze every winter. There are some hydrangeas that are more hardy and can tolerate cold winters. Look for a hydrangea called "Let's Dance" that survive Michigan winters and reblooms o both old and new wood. It is a Proven Winner plant so should be easy to find. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
