Marianne's Response

Nina’s Question

We are virgin gardeners. Have 20 forsythia bushes for the yard and someone suggested saving old coffee grounds to use for the planting.

Are they wet grounds or dried out and just what do we do with them?

Thank you for your help with this.

Marianne's Response

You can work old coffee grounds dry or wet into the soil around your plants but if you layer them around too thickly mold will grow on the top. It would be better to dry the coffee grounds first to prevent mold but better yet would be to add the coffee grounds to a compost pile so they could decompose and turn into soil.
