Odd looking Red Hot lily
Last fall I moved 3 Red Hot trumpet lily bulbs from a pot to the garden. Two have odd looking blooms; one is blooming normally. Any ideas what caused this? In the pot they all bloomed successfully for at least two years. Attempting to attach photos. The color is off in the flower. Also the filaments did not grow positioning the anthers at the base of the style. The pistil appears ordinary.

Wow - that is indeed an unusual looking bloom with an extra long pistil and short anthers. Sometimes it is is the change in soil or trauma of the transplant that causes a disruption of the bulb development and unusual fruit or flower parts. This summer cooler weather patterns and lack of pollination in the north has caused lack of fruit set on squash and other unusual growth patterns. So I am going to blame either the transplant or the weather but the good news is you still have those gorgeous, fragrant blooms to enjoy. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
