Osmocote is great for avocados but do not dissolve the product in water. It works when heat and moisture slowly release the nutrients to the plants as they need it. You apply the Osmocote to the soil around the base of the plant. The usual application rate for Osmocote Plus is 3 tablespoons per two gallon pot. So if you think your avocado tree would fill a 10 gallon container, then 15 tablespoons would be about the right amount. Mix the product into the top one to three inches of topsoil.
