Osmocote Plus Application
Hello Marianne,
I purchased a 8 lbs bag of Osmocote Plus but the bag didn’t have a scoop. I used the an old scoop from a 2 lbs Osmocote Plus container I have but realize after I applied the Osmocote Plus the scoop is only 1 TSP.
For each Moso Bambo plant I applied 1 TSP per hole in a triangle formation where each hole is 2 1/2-3 feet apart.
For my Japanese Arrow Bamboo plant I applied 1 TSP per hole in the four holes that are about 3 feet apart.
For my Black Locust and Osage Orange Trees that are 5-7 feet high and about #2 pencil to old fat pencil in diameter I applied 1 TSP per hole for two holes that are about 1 1/2 feet apart
For my little trees in 5 gallon buckets I applied 1 TSP per bucket.
My question for all the above did I apply enough Osmocote Plus? If no how much more should I apply to each based on the information above?
Your help with this information will be greatly appreciated.
Have a beautiful and blessed day!!!
Best Southern Regards,
Van

I apologize for the missing scoop in the 8 lb. bag. Osmocote has two sizes of applicators, depending upon the package. Bags contain 8 pounds of material and a scoop that, when level, holds 3 tablespoons. The 1 and 2 lb. bottles include a spoon that holds 1 tablespoon. The scoop holds three times as much as the spoon. Caps on the 1 and 2 lb. bottles are identical in size and hold 3 tablespoons, same as a scoop.
Congratulations on what must be a very interesting garden. If you get a chance, please visit the Photo Gallery in the Member's Corner and share your gardening efforts.
Your note indicates apprehension about the application rates. I do not believe you have over-applied in any instance. In fact, with Osmocote, that's pretty hard to do. No size was expressed for the bamboo plants, but I'm guessing you could have doubled the application, perhaps even tripled it. For trees, we recommend 1 scoopful (3 tablespoons) per two foot of branch spread. For anything in a container, divide the recommended application rate in half.
Since the application of Outdoor & Indoor was generally light, wait about 3-months (instead of the recommended 6 months) and reapply. Best wishes for the coming season.
