Best shrubs for attracting birds
We have heavy wet soil and I would like to plant a couple of small to medium shrubs or trees which will be pretty and attract birds. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Shrubs and trees with berries are most attractive to birds but evergreens also provide shelter. Red chokecherry, Spice bush, Red Osier Dogwood, Bog laurel, Pussy Willow, and the many types of spiraea will all adjust to wet soils. You can also build raised mounds with better drainage to grow more plants such as mahonia and filberts to attract the birds. to add some vertical elements to the landscape think tall posts with birdhouses mounted on them and for a garden accent a lovely bird bath. Good for you to think about plants instead of bird seed for our birds. Native plants are the best way to keep our native birds healthy. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
