Passionflower Fruit

Do you know if you can eat the fruit that forms on the passionflower vine?

Marianne's Response

There are many types of vines called Passionflower all from the genus Passifloraceae but the species come in many forms some good for eating but some with no flavor or even an unpleasant taste. The passion flower with the most edible fruit is grown in tropical climates and is ripe when it falls from the vine. If your flowering vine has formed fruit that is a good sign that you have a happy plant but unless you live in the tropics it is unlikely that the fruit will be edible. Some people are also allergic to unusual fruits and berries that are usually grown in distant lands. I suggest caution when it comes to tasting any plant not grown as a traditional food source.
