The Peace Lily or Spathiphyllum is a tropical plant that makes a great houseplant that will even bloom in low light if you know these tips. First no direct hot sun as the leaves can burn. This plant cannot handle cold temperatures so do not place near cold window between drapes and glass in the winter. It needs moist soil and humidity. This means feel the soil and water before it is totally dry. How often depends on many factors but usually every 4 to 7 days. The plant needs drainage holes in the bottom of the pot. If your home has very dry air you will need to mist the plant daily or let it set on a bed of pebbles in a saucer that is kept filled with water. The plant should not sit in the water but sit on the pebbles above the water. In low light, like during the winter do not worry about fertilizing. In the spring a slow release plant food like Osmocote is good for most any houseplant but too much plant food, especially liquid plant food can kill a plant. But don't give up. Moist soil, humidity, indirect light and no cold temps will ensure a happy Peace Plant. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
