Moss problems

You have written about moss and lawns and perhaps living with it. Our moss is out of control and is up to 4 inches deep and is like waves across the lawn. The moss is also harboring some type of aggressive grass. (We live on 2 acres in the urban growth area north of Olympia.) I have taken samples of it to master gardeners and have been told by volunteers that it is annual bluegrass. I looked it up and is definitely not that. It reminds me of wheat or straw except that the top of the grass has a lot of “beat up” pieces. I have been told that to get rid of the moss I need to put a product on it to kill it, then rake it with a power rake, apply moss killer again and “seed over”. I will be left with large area with no grass at all. This does not sound like a “reseed” issue. I want to decrease the size of the lawn and need assistance in knowing how to proceed. Do you ever make site visits? Or any recommendations on how to proceed? Thanks.
