Peony blooms

I have three peony plants. They are three years old and only one has bloomed. They were all planted as plants from the nursery. Only one has bloomed. They are facing west not under a roof. In spring and summer the plants get full sun about 8 hrs a day. Have any thoughts?

The most common reason why peonies do not bloom is that they are planted too deep. Scrape off any mulch from on top of the roots so that the eye or growth point is just barely covered with soil. Peonies also flower better after they have been in the ground for a few years so next year could be better. I also recommend you add a slow release plant food such as Osmocote Plus around the base of each plant in spring. This will ensure that a lack of nutrients is not impeding the bloom cycle. I am thinking you'll be harvesting peony bouquets next year at this time. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
