peszoe’s Question
I have a beautiful liliac bush outside my dining room window – the wonderful smell!! Problem and question – this bush was here when I moved in, so I’m unsure how old it is, what can I do to promote more lush flowering? Also, should I remove the dead flower bunches? Thanks for any suggestions!

I love lilacs! You can remove the spent blooms to promote more flowers and also add some lime around the base of the plant if you live in an area of high rainfall and acid soil. Other than that, lilacs like full sun, good air circulation and some light pruning right after they flower. Here's another tip - when you cut the blooms to bring indoors, cut them in the morning and pound the woody stems with a hammer before you put them in a vase of warm water. This will help them to last longer as cut flowers. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
