Marianne's Response

Plant location

I have many plans outside on my deck, I want to bring them inside for the winter. I am concerned that I will also bring in bugs. How can I prevent this from happening? Thanks for your help!!

Marianne's Response

Good question. I put my plants in quarantine for a few days by moving them into the garage before taking them indoors. Take the time to check under each pot and around the edge of the pot for slugs and bugs. Then spray the plants lightly with water to disturb flying insects. I also put a non organic  mulch of gravel, corks or marbles on top of the soil to prevent fruit flies from digging in. Your coleus look lovely, don't forget you can take cuttings of them and root them in water if you don't want to overwinter the entire plant. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
