Vegetables like to grow in full sun in rich soil so once you set up your beds invest in good topsoil with added compost. Then arrange your plants so that the tall ones such as tomatoes do not shade the lower growing plants. There are warm season plants that love heat such as tomatoes, peppers and squash and they should not be planted until the nights are above 50 degrees. You can plant cool season crops such as lettuce, peas, radish and cabbage now. Add a tee pee of bamboo poles or upright wire messing to grow beans and peas that climb. You can let squash and pumpkin sprawl out of the raised beds as they have long vines that take up a lot of room. The best answer to what you should plant is to grow what you most like to eat. Tomatoes are the number one favorite to grow so try lots of different varieties. I do not recommend corn in a small space. There is a classic book called Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew that teaches more details about companion planting and harvesting in raised beds. You are starting a great adventure in better eating and more creative cooking. Enjoy and Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
