Marianne's Response
plantlot-question
Wondered if you were able to identify a houseplant that we have that is a mystery to everyone that sees it. Of course they ask us what is it and we tell them we haven’t been able to locate anyone who knows. We searched through garden books page by page but no luck. It has rather tough leaves and is very dark green. In the center it has the bulb like stalk that seems to grow up with the plant. It was planted from a seed. Ours is making seeds from tiny flowers on the bulb on the stalk. It is quite draught tolerant also.
Any ideas.
Thanks very much

Yes, I can see the photo that you sent and I am going to ask if you can send it to the photo of the week section of this web page. Then everyone can see it and help with the identification. The plant looks familiar to me but it is so unusual that I would like all gardeners out there to help with the identification. Seems to me I have seen this growing in Hawaii. The large leaves remind me of a type of warm weather euphorbia but the unusual stalk has me stumped. Readers, can you help identify this mystery plant?
