Marianne's Response

Potato tops

Hello and thank you in advance. The potatoes I planted last year desired to grow this year. I’ve been keeping a close eye on them (first time growing), but when I got home I found that the gardeners had chopped off the tops. Does this hurt them in the long run? I know I was to wait till the tops die back, when do I know when to harvest? I’m just learning to garden, I appreciate your help. Thank you very much

No worries. I think your volunteer spuds will recover from the bad haircut and you will enjoy a crop of potatoes later this fall. Harvest when the tops start to turn yellow. Welcome to gardening and don't be afraid to experiment and learn from your mistakes.  Plants can be very forgiving of new gardeners. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
