Your potted plant will be just fine if you grow it indoors. It won't even realize it is in a different zone unless your new home suffers from low humidity. Then just mist the plant often to add moisture to the air. This is mostly a problem in very dry climates. New Jersey and Long Island should be very similar when it comes to indoor air moisture.
