Marianne's Response
Primula japonica
Dear Marianne,
I am cultivating a creek bed with clay soil. I live in SE Iowa zone 5a. It floods in the winter and dries to moist in the summer.
I am considering lining the edge of the moist creek with primula Japonica. I have read they are hardy to zone 4 and tolerate clay soil. Will they work in this position?

I am not promising a primrose path but it sounds logical so why not give it a try? You can plant just a few primroses the first year, see if they survive then go primrose crazy with more planting the next year. Sounds like an exciting project. Hope you share photos with us. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
