Marianne's Response

Prof de fr’s Question

Do you recommend pruning lavender plants? Some of our plants are very leggy and are no longer symmetrical. Sometimes we lose plants over the winter. When I see others’ lavenders it seems they do nothing and their lavenders are beautiful year around. Help!
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Marianne's Response

Lavender will be more tidy if it is pruned every summer immediately after it blooms. Cut back the plants by one third right when the flower spikes have gone from purple to brown. Lavender plants usually live from 6 to 7 years and so don't feel bad about replacing ugly plants. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
