protecting hydranga and honeysuckle through hard winter

Is it advisable to heap leaves on the base of my hydranga, honeysuckle to protect during the hard winter months? Zone 6.

Yes! In cold winter climates fallen leaves are nature's way of providing insulation so you will be providing an extra blanket of protection. Just remove the piled up leaves when you signs of new growth in the spring. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
