Cutting off the first flush of blooms once the flowers begin to fade from a Kniphofia or Red Hot Poker plant is the best way to increase your odds of more blooms. Although this perennial is considered drought tolerant it will bloom more it given at least one inch of water a week and likes a mulch around the roots. It must have good drainage. Apply a slow release plant food like Osmocote in the spring or once it blooms and that should be enough fertilizer to last through the summer. Full sun is the final tip for getting a second flush of blooms. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
