Red Rocket Tree
Our Red Rocket usually has red flowers this year the new blooms are white. Has something changed in our soil? It happened after a heavy rain. We are downhill from an area where there is a dog chained outside and we are wondering if the ammonia from his urine could have changed the soil. if so how do we correct this issue?

Flowers change color from year to year on plants for several reasons. First it could be the weather. During cool weather blooms turn pale and a lot of rain will do this. Second the pH of the soil can change bloom color but this is a slow process so I do not think a dog several yards away would pee enough to change the soil around the tree. Third the sunlight or lack of will change flower color. My guess is the rainy weather is to blame but don't worry next year your tree could be back to red blooms. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
