Marianne's Response

Removing plants from container to in-ground

I purchased a pot from Lowes that I think you also purchased. I just left everything in the pot for the summer. I was wondering if I can keep it in the pot or should I transplant into the ground for next year.

You can do either. If you leave these plants in the ground all winter they will not grow much but be ready to be transplanted into the ground in the spring. If you transplant them all into the ground in the fall, it leaves the container open to planting bulbs now for spring plus the plant will be building roots over the winter and grow faster when spring arrives. I always try to do as much transplanting in the fall as I can. This is because spring is a busy time in the garden and so spreading out the tasks makes things less hectic. Looks like you will be starting a new shade garden. Keep growing, Marianne Binetti
